Making Mexican farms more sustainable with biogas cogeneration

Rancho La Bien Aparecida is a dairy cattle farm and milk production plant in Mexico. Its owners installed a biogas production unit and cogeneration system to make their production and energy consumption more eco-friendly.

Thanks to the cogeneration unit, the energy efficiency of their energy use has drastically increased resulting in a lower CO2 footprint and lower energy bills. The farm succeeded in reducing its CO2 emissions by 4,700 tonnes per year and cut their electricity costs by 25-30%. In total energy savings reach 45-50% compared to the situation before installing the biogas cogeneration unit.
